PROTECTING MEDICARE

Honoring the Work of Those Who Built America: Let’s Mend Social Security and Medicare, Not End It.

Honoring the Work of Those Who Built America: Let’s Mend Social Security and Medicare, Not End It.I will not support either party’s attempt to diminish our promise to the Greatest Generation or the Baby Boomers - period. With the right leadership, we can mend what’s broken without turning our backs on the people who built our highways, taught our children, nursed our sick and defended our shores .

Over the next seventy five years, the Social Security shortfall is equal to 0.7% of our GDP. Yes, that means if you have a family income of $100,000, you and your spouse are filing for divorce, selling the house and splitting up the kids because you can’t agree on how to spend $700.00. That is nonsense. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office has put forth “30 Budget Tweaks” that would put Social Security in the black. If you select me to be your voice in Congress, I will be a passionate fighter for mending not ending Social Security.

MedicareMedicare, on the other hand, is 13% of our annual federal budget and that percent will jump to 16% by 2021. Medicare is literally life or death for nearly 50 million Americans. In 2006, Congress passed Medicare Part D, which shifted the cost of prescription drugs to the American taxpayers. From 2007 to 2016 that financial commitment will amount to $982 million dollars. The problem is clear; we elected a Congress who was willing to take the glory but not face their obligation to figure out how to pay for it.

The next few Congresses will have to clean up their mess by facing difficult conversations on preventative health care, the skyrocketing cost of healthcare, premiums, means testing and eligibility age. If you select me to represent you in Congress, I will be a passionate fighter for improving not destroying healthcare for the Greatest Generation and Baby Boomers.
